On the 2nd August 2006 Eastland Medical Systems Ltd concluded a contract acquiring a 50% holding in West Australian sterile barrier & packaging manufacturer, Ampack Medical Pty Ltd (Ampack). Over the past 3 years, Ampack has developed and installed state of the art production equipment at their facility outside Perth, Western Australia. Ampack manufacture a range of sterile barrier products for supply to both the domestic and international medical and industrial marketplaces. A continuing in-house Research and Development programme ensures the product range keeps pace with market demands and that products remain cost effective.
Ampack produces a comprehensive range of non-woven sterilization sheeting used to create a sterile barrier in the medical environment. The product range includes Medisheet® and Viewpack®. Ampack products are cost competitive and produced to the highest quality under an ISO9002 Quality Assurance programme. The Ampack range of products compliments Eastland’s® existing range of sterilization consumables providing additional leverage in this market segment. It also falls in line with the strategy of controlling products from manufacturer to end user, retaining maximum profit margin and delivering increased pricing flexibility to the organisation.

IN SOUTH AFRICA
Eastland Medical Systems South Africa
Pty) Ltd (“EMSSA”) was incorporated as a South African Corporation, in November 2004 for the purpose of establishing a specialist medical device manufacturer and to acquire patents and intellectual property that cover a range of leading edge safe injectable devices and methods of manufacture from Eastland Medical Systems Ltd (“EMS”), together with exclusive distribution and licensing rights to a wide range of products.
In support of the safe injectable devices stable of products, EMSSA will distribute a range of other safe medical products supplied from EMS. These products have proven sales record and are available for immediate distribution in the African markets.
In 2006 EMSSA acquired exclusive distribution rights to a new Anti-Malaria treatment, the Agreement with Star Medical Botswana will entitle EMSSA to distribute the new treatment to the 47 Countries within the Sub-Saharan Africa.
Health InForm (HIF) was founded in early 2004, and has become, in a very short space in time, a recognized medical supplier in the South African market. Drawing momentum from the vast experience of the energetic staff that has joined the company, HIF has become the preferred supplier of some of the largest clinic groups in South Africa. Regional representatives and offices have already been established to make the company’s presence known country wide.
In November 2004, Health In Form was appointed the African Distributor for Eastland Medical Systems Ltd (EMS), an Australian listed company. HIF have been successful in forming a network of suppliers in Japan, Taiwan, Germany and Switzerland. These suppliers have provided specialized products such as safe devices and specialized suture materials that have been instrumental in establishing HIF in the South African health care market.

STAR MEDICAL (BOTSWANA) LTD
In early 2007 Eastland® acquired a 30% stake in African drug development company, Star Medical (Botswana) Limited – a key partner in Eastland’s® African Malaria Project.
About the Malaria Treatment
The unique treatment uses a proven formula that is presently available in tablet form but which offers a number of significant advantages over current medications due to the method it is administered. It attacks the malaria parasite at far greater speed than the conventional tablets in current use, reducing the need for continued hospitalization and resulting in significant cost savings to Governments and relief organisations. The treatment is particularly effective in children suffering from malaria-related symptoms such as malnutrition and diarrhea.
Manufacturing of the Anti-Malaria treatment is expected to begin in Mid 2008, following the completion of South African regulatory approvals and the establishment of approved manufacturing facilities.
Eastland’s® interest in Star Medical is an integral element of the overall strategy to expand market penetration within Africa of both its Anti-Malaria Treatment and Eastland’s® ClipOn Safe Needle Device.
